Crash Animations Showcase a Rear-End Collision to Secure $6.2M Settlement and Legislative Reform!

A mother and her three-year-old daughter, in a stalled car on I-65 near Franklin, Indiana, were rear-ended by a pickup truck, tragically resulting in the child’s death. Attorney Brandon Yosha and Iconographics collaborated on animations that vividly depicted the crash, aiding in a $6.2 million settlement and legislative change with "Norah's Law." This law expanded Indiana's move-over requirements to cover all disabled vehicles. The recreation animations, highlighting the critical impact on Norah's side of the vehicle, played a key role in both the legal victory and in promoting road safety, serving as a poignant tribute to Norah’s memory.

CHALLENGE

  • Accurately determine the car's positioning off the roadway

  • Recreate the high-speed crash dynamics that resulted in a complex vehicle rollover into a cable barrier

  • Faithfully visualize the car's hazard lights to oncoming traffic

  • Present the case in a manner that not only addressed the legal aspects but also highlighted the broader public safety implications, persuading lawmakers and the public of the need for change

VISUAL STRATEGY

01 Defendant's Point of View (POV):

  • Demonstrative that the defendant driver had a clear and unobstructed view of the hazard in front of him

  • Show that an attentive driver had ample time and distance to avoid the crash

02 Aerial Drone Recreation:

  • Demonstrate the sequence of events, timing, and position of vehicles during the collision sequence

03 Braking Alternative Scenario:

  • Demonstrate that an attentive driver would have perceived, reacted, and braked well before colliding with the disabled sedan

04 Virtual Witness View:

  • Recreate the severity of the fatal crash caused by the defendant driver’s gross negligence

“Iconographics' animation became a pivotal element in our campaign for "Norah's Law," aiming to expand Indiana's move-over requirements to include all disabled vehicles, not just emergency ones. The compelling nature of their work helped raise awareness, garner support, and brought us a change in the law in July of 2023, expanding the move-over law to protect all vehicles rather than merely emergency vehicles.

We are immensely grateful to Iconographics for their dedication, skill, and sensitivity in handling such a crucial project. Their exceptional work has not only supported our legal efforts but has also contributed significantly to a broader public awareness campaign.

We highly recommend Iconographics to anyone seeking a team that combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of the emotional and human aspects of storytelling"
