Foot Reconstruction Following Premises Liability Incident
This premises liability case involved a 72 year old woman who tripped on an uneven paver resulting in a foot reconstruction surgery. The attorney needed to show that the complex surgery to resolve ongoing symptoms and persistent foot pain was not the result of degenerative changes in her ankle, but rather from the result of an injury sustained due to the uneven paver.
The client experienced persistent foot pain despite conservative treatments including bracing, physical therapy, medications, and immobilization. Due to ongoing symptoms, physicians recommended a complex flatfoot reconstruction involving posterior tibial tendon repair, calcaneal osteotomies, 1st TMT joint stabilization with bunion correction, and a gastrocnemius recession.

Challenge
One of the primary challenges in this case was demonstrating the true extent of what the plaintiff endured through a complex, half a million dollar, foot reconstruction surgery. While medical records listed multiple procedures—including tendon repair, bone cuts, joint stabilization, bunion correction, and muscle lengthening—the magnitude of the surgery was difficult to appreciate through words alone. The challenge was not simply explaining the procedures, but helping viewers understand the physical reality of what the patient experienced.
For attorneys, it is important to educate the jury so they can appreciate the complexity, invasiveness, and cumulative impact of the treatment. Our goal was to visually communicate the full scope of the surgery in a way that was clear and engaging for a lay audience while maintaining the medical accuracy necessary to support the case.
Visual Strategy
To address this challenge, we developed a story-driven visual approach focused on simplification without sacrificing accuracy. Complex anatomy and surgical steps were broken into short, focused visual sequences. Controlled camera angles, guided motion, and clean compositions helped direct attention to one concept at a time.
To improve clarity and reduce distraction, nonessential anatomy was ghosted or simplified, allowing viewers to focus on the most important surgical details. The overall animation was structured to feel intuitive and educational while maintaining medical credibility.
Our Work
Our team created a fully customized surgical animation illustrating the complete foot reconstruction procedure from start to finish. The animation visually demonstrated the patient’s condition, surgical corrections, and procedural techniques in a way that was engaging, visually organized, and easy for non-medical viewers to follow.
Results
The case originally carried an initial settlement offer of $15,000. After incorporating surgical visuals and clearly communicating the extent of the procedure and injury, the case ultimately reached a $300,000 settlement.
The final product served as a powerful educational and demonstrative tool that balanced visual simplicity with anatomical and procedural accuracy.
